Washington, DC – March of Dimes announced today that Lilly Harris has been named as a finalist in the eleventh annual Heroines in Technology® Awards. The Heroines in Technology® Awards, presented by The Northern Virginia Chapter of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA NOVA) and the March of Dimes, recognizes women in the Maryland, Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia technology industries who demonstrate community leadership.
“We’re thrilled to have seen so much interest in this year’s Heroines in Technology Awards call for nominations,” said Bridget Bean, Event Co-Chair and District Director, U.S. Small Business Administration. “Women in our area are doing extraordinary things within the community, and our intent is that these awards recognize finalists for their passion and dedication to the technology industry. We congratulate everyone for their hard work and wish the finalists luck in the competition.”
Heroines in Technology award winners will be announced on October 21, 2011 at the Hyatt Regency Reston in Reston, VA., at a black-tie gala to include dinner, music and auctions. Proceeds from the event will support local March of Dimes programs of research, community services, education and advocacy to reduce the occurrence of birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
Reflecting on her nomination, Harris says, "I am extremely honored to be recognized along side such extraordinary women. We all share a common belief to 'leave the world a better place.' Giving back to the community is part of my responsibility as a citizen, a leader and CEO. Adopting philanthropy as a way of life has been so fulfilling, the more I do, the more I want to give back.”
